Magic-Date is situated in Lugansk, regional capital of the eastermost region of the Ukraine. Lugansk is a city of nearly half a million people, whilst its region encompases nearly 28,000 square kilometres and borders on Russia to the North and East. Although Lugansk is 800km from the capital Kiev, there are frequent flights from Kiev's Borispol international airport. Web site of Kiev Borispol Airport can be found at our useful links.
Lugansk's geographical position has been responsible for it's past growth and prosperity. The excellent road and rail communications resulted in it becoming a major early manufacturing centre.
Lugansk was founded in 1795, when Catherine the Great caused the creation of an iron foundry beside the River Lugan. This foundry was soon producing the armaments that helped repel Napoleon after his invasion of Russia in 1812. The Crimean War of 1853-56 also brought another boom in production. With all this industrial activity the settlement known as Lugansk grew fast.
This economic prosperity resulted in Lugansk being granted the status of city in 1882. Many new factories opening in the final decades of the 19th century, making Lugansk a major producer of armaments and railway locomotives. The city was awarded its coat of arms in 1903.
Today Lugansk is a major industrial and cultural centre of the eastern Ukraine. There are four theatres in the city: the Russian Drama Theatre, the Ukrainian Musical Drama Theatre, the Puppet Theatre and the Modern Drama Theatre. There is also the permanent Circus, several Palaces of Culture, five major universities and many museums.
There are many friendly and comfortable restaurants where you can spend a pleasant romantic evening, enjoying the delicious Ukrainian food, often accompanied by live music. If you enjoy dancing then you will be pleased by the number of discos and night clubs that are open until after dawn. These are worth the experience alone as the atmosphere is peculiarly Ukrainian and unfamiliar to most foreigners.
Lugansk may be far from the capital, but it is an excellent and easy place to visit. It does also have the well-deserved reputation of having the most beautiful girls in the Ukraine.
We look forward to welcoming you to our city and making your stay as comfortable and as memorable as possible!
